MISC - J.H. Bunnell Telegraph Set $210 Shipped This item is a J.H. Bunnell 20 ohm ‘key on board’ (“K.O.B.”) telegraph set that dates from the post Civil War era and was made c. early 1880s. The sounder is engraved with the Feb. 16, 1876 patent date, and the key bears the Feb. 15, 1881 patent date. The key knobs and coil covers are hard rubber (“gutta percha”), which mark it as an early version of this item before they switched to using bakelite. Gutta percha is fragile and the coil covers are often cracked or absent. These are intact with no damage. The 20 ohm resistance of the coils indicates this would have been used in intermediate distance work, unlike main line 120 ohm sounders which were long-line instruments, and 4 ohm sounders which were for short line use. Heavily patina’d brass which was originally lacquered and some of the original lacquer remains. The item has all original parts present as made. This item is for display only and is non-functional.
