MISC - E.F. Johnson Speed-X Bug Model 114-520 $135 Shipped. This bug for sale is an E.F. Johnson Speed-X bug model 114-520 in excellent shape. The bug is not mint, and there are some paint chips on the edge of the bug base. There are multiple different design variations of this bug, and the earlier versions included parts that were normally found on Les Logan bugs left over from the era before when E.F. Johnson took over the bug manufacturing in 1947. E.F. Johnson used up the old Les Logan parts stock, and incorporated Les Logan parts into E.F. Johnson bugs. This bug has Les Logan style fiber paddles with the ‘target’ engraving (see close up photo), unlike later versions of this model that had the more typical moulded plastic paddles. In addition, the mfg. label has a rectangular label similar to the Les Logan labels, unlike the trapezoidal label used on later 114-520 bugs. This probably dates to the early 1950’s but is difficult to date accurately. It handles nicely in use. email me for additional photos.
